St, George,s Day all about a Roman soldier that has probably never even seen this country and about the only thing known about him is he killed a mythical creature.

We made him a Saint!!

Why do we do this, cant we kick him out and make someone else a saint, someone English, someone that has actually done something for this country.

We haven't we got a logo change?

We had a logo change for St Patricks day....
Yeah - what have the Romans ever done for us?
he's patron saint of Georgia too, of course, and of lots of other countries. I'm all in favour of saints multitasking. But 'doing something for this country' is not part of the job description. No saint has done anything for this country.
Yeah why can't we have a national holiday for someone like- like say Robin Hood, or maybe Dick Turpin- then at least we'd all have some fun and a good excuse to go out and hit rich people over the head and take all their money;-)
Or..... we could have Oliver Cromwell Day- and go on a daytrip to Ireland and have a big fight.... lots of great English national heros you got Ratter;-)
And everyone could celebrate Oliver Cromwell Day by sticking warts on their faces

Wrong jno, Sir Thomas More done quite a bit actually!!

He burned people at the stake for daring to own a Bible written in English!!

That's the kind of Englishmen we need to be made Patron Saint of Politicians for sure!!

We have quite a few here actually,

http://verybritishsub...t-british-heroes.html

ok so we can burn all the Catholics but that would still leave a fair few im sure.
Not Cromwell! He forbade eating mince pies and said they were a work of the Devil. Don't know where I got that from, but it looks good. RATTER (why do we have to shout that) just pretend and have a jolly good time - who cares what saint we are having a good time in the name of. omg a sentence ending with a preposition or something, but who cares anyway. (Sings) Enjoy yourself it's later than you think (shuts up at neighbour's request)
Any why does the England football crest have three lions?
Since when were lions roaming England's green and pleasant lands?
I suppose, in the mane, it is symbolic, hc ☺
I love that list of heroes RATTER but Saint Queen Boadicea or Saint King Harold? they don't sound quite the same do they. Nah - let's stick with St. George, he's done all right for us up to now so we can't really sack him for someone more attractive can we? Besides, how do you know the dragon he killed wasn't an English dragon?
Question Author
Starbuck, you are absolutely right, that Dragon probably was an English Dragon :-)

And stop moaning and keep SHOUTING!!!!! :-) xx
Morning RATTER - I am somewhat disappointed not to see my name on that list, but am never one to bear a grudge ☺

How about Saint Geoffrey of Boycott - Good English stock and Yorkshireman to boot!!!
""ok so we burn all the catholics "" oh ah :)
ttfn - that was marvellous it sent shivers up and down my spine and brought tears to my eyes. What enthusiasm. When do we start calling you Saint ttfn?
He may have been a Roman soldier but he came from Syria/Palestine.... the George and the Dragon bit is a Crusader legend.
George and The Dragon - wasn't that a tv series with Peggy Mount?
