I happen to have met my soldier just recently. but all i know about him is his first name, date of birth, rank and very little about his unit. Is there a website that i can log into and find more details about him?

I suspect not - not that the general public could access anyway. I may be wrong, but that could be a security risk.

Well, redhelen, i could have done that.. It is just we agreed to take things slowly as he is concerned about his trip this time, and does not know what will happen there... it is sad i know, i just can't push him by my questions, and at the same time, i am getting so attached to him, and want to know all about him
Surely he'd rather you ask him than go trawling the net? I'm sure you couldn't find a website that had his military details. Maybe some generic and historical stuff about his unit. Anything else would be not be in the public domain.
In which case, it may not be common knowledge about where his unit is going. I'm afraid that it's one aspect of falling in love with a soldier - sometimes it's better that we at home don't know exactly what they are doing, and tbh, most of them like it that way.

i am working hard on google, it is just that i keep getting confused from all the different names of the units, reg, etc... as this whole thing is all new to me. I am not sure if this name that i know is a sub unit of something bigger
angel, I really wouldn't. He will tell you all that a) he wants you to know, and b) he's allowed to tell you - don't forget that serving soldiers are often bound by the Official Secrets Act, depending on what they are deployed to do. He may not be able to tell you more, and if so, you HAVE to live with that. It's not much fun but it's a fact of life for Army families. The least they tell us about where they are going and what they are going to be doing, the better. The ranks may not know themselves what's going to happen wherever they are going - best not to speculate.
I would leave alone for now and respect his wish to take things slowly, I know that doesnt help you when you have got the love bug. but snooping around behind his back is only going to give him the wrong impression should he find out.
now that is a bright question...yes the details are out there on a public website - given that the accuracy of an exocet or cruise is now down to some +/- two meters from the input coordinates (and yes our forces - well they even model the impact of explosions to try and avoid collateral damage as the accuracy is such), it wouldnt take a half wit of a terorrist or enemy to prime their missiles, would it?

oh boxtops.... you said it all here..
i think i will just have to wait for him ....
Rather more forcefully put than I did, DT, but yes exactly - secrecy and security is all part of the game plan. It's a whole new world which angel is getting into - it's not like your bloke going to work in the city on the train every day.
^ your post wasn't there when I replied, angel - I think that's a sensible plan, frustrating though it is. If he can tell you, ne will - if he can't, he won't.
Just to add all members of the armed forces and MoD civil servants have to sign the official secrets act. In fact it may be all civil servants.
That explains a lot Prudie, why the job centre or council offices never have the same person twice to see you.. that is being sarcastic, helen!

But it is a very valid point that Prudie makes.

well cazzz1975 i am not really snooping around, it is not like he told me not to search. he just doesn't share alot of info. but what inticed this whole search was that i ran into this Treats for Troops website by coincidence, and thought of making him a surprise, but.... guess what, i had not the least info i needed
How long have you been seeing him?
trying to find out details about him without his knowledge would be snooping around imo, I agree with boxtops and prudies answers here though. dont you think that if you did find out info he would be a little unsettled as to how you found out this info? maybe he just wants to take things slowly.
