ah, i remember when...

just going back to quassias chuckle thread, where i mentioned how i remember looking through the noisy, crinkly pink brown, empty inlay of a chocolate box, at programmes on our black and white telly, making believe we'd got a posh colour set! lol,
are there any things that you can remember doing like that, when you were young, when money and luxuries were scarce?

I can't think of anything at the moment, but I used to believe that when you switched the TV off, the programme paused. (I was only 4)

Making those big paper trees out of rolled up newspaper, but cannot top the 'looking through pink and brown' that's a winner.

oooh I remember, a Christmas wreath, a metal coat hanger twisted into a circle (well sort of) and lots of tinsel wrapped around with holly from the back garden.

Also, cutting strips of newspaper into rings (stuck with glue) to make paper chains and painted.

and mamya, i think i can recall those trees!.. did they end up looking a bit like palm trees?! lol

oh and i remember thinking this too .... (listen to this, dohhhhhh, lol .....)

on 'this is your life' with eamon andrews, the guests who he had on his show each week, all went away with 'the red book' under their arm didnt they?
well i used to think the books was of the life story of him, eamon andrews!! lol .....
i used to think, blimey, theyve got a book, all about him?! ....

I used to make wee dolls out of wool - they looked a bit like those corn dolly things in Blair Witch ;)

Stuck in the back of the car (as usual, pre seat-belt regulations) I asked why the roads were so twisty and bendy and not straight as in Roman times.

The answer 'to make the journey more interesting' Oh, the shame of it, I believed them.

oh gosh, theyre all coming back now! lol ...

i remember, sitting for hours at the kitchen table, when i was a wee nipper with my mum, with an old kays catalogue, thumbing through to the household furniture section, and carefully cutting out settees and sideboards and curtains and whatnot, arranging them in place, and glueing them down, to make a lovely living room! ... lol.
