Arthur may have been based on someone real, probably a warlord in the era after the Roman army pulled out of Britain. The round table was probably a fabrication, however.
I've always thought it was just a myth although I did see a programme once that suggested that (if I remember correctly) there was such a thing as a Merlin rather than a wizard called Merlin
Question Author
no, i do know the difference housemouse, i was asking who here believes it in a historical context and if so what proof so they have and what are their thoughts as there have been archaelogical evidence supporting his existence
Question Author
plus yeah i am open to believe that arthur could be real, but if he was not a king, probably a general or something
I don't mean a bird called a Merlin btw, can't find a link though to what I'm on about but I think a Merlin was some sort of wiseman/healer.
Question Author
yeah, i think i saw that D97, and i remember that, he was a doctor or a preacher or something like that, dont know if it had anything to do with arthur though
Am I confused then? If so sorry, I thought King Arthur and Merlin were connected in the tales.
Question Author
no they are, but if merlin existed in real life they might not be linked, but yeah youre right, in the tales merlins arthurs advisor, sorry about the confusion :)
I went to Tintagel genuinely expecting to experience something magical.....
