What does the Three Headed Rabbit symbol stand for? Apparrently it appears in all the major religions of the world but no-one knows what it means. Any ideas anyone?

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.I'm not sure about 'three-headed', but in old church decoration - stained glass windows etc - rabbits and hares symbolise lust. There are two reasons for this...firstly, because of the rabbit's well-known breeding capacity and secondly, because of a pun in Latin. In that language �cuniculus' means �rabbit' and �cunnus' means �vagina'. (The latter is clearly the source of our very rude word for that part of the anatomy.) So, there is another connection between the animal and the act of procreation. Pictures often show the Virgin Mary with a rabbit at her feet, which symbolises her victory over lust. Maybe three-headed just multiplies the significance.

There are many potential reasons or meanings to the symbol which could apply to a lot of religions and belief, going back to Celts and the Romans (Caesar is noted as saying that the Britons considered that the hare was sacred)
