If one doesn't wish to offend, best check the band's politics before playing their music?

Surely if the venue has a licence for music, persons should be allowed to play any commercial piece of music, no matter what politics they belong to?
/// 'How inappropriate. Didn't they research the political history of our band? ///
Who the 'fig' cares, and why should they, has it now come to this that Right-Wing parties are not allowed to play the 'Nasty Left's music if they want to.
But one has to ask is, why would they want to play such drivel?

As a long time fan of Primal Scream I am well p!ssed off that the tories chose to steal one of their tunes. As triggs says it is indeed a tune of epic proportions and certainly NOT for tory self promotion.
Whatever happened to copyright and asking an artist('s) permission? Then again we are talking about an MP here.
As for >>>Who the 'fig' cares, and why should they, has it now come to this that Right-Wing parties are not allowed to play the 'Nasty Left's music if they want to.<<<
Perhaps AOG had she taken the time to 'care' about what she had playing she would have noticed the ultimate irony in her choice of lyrical content. Not because it's 'nasty' or 'lefty' but because it says it all really. She either read/learned the lyrics and her tongue was firmly in cheek or she doesn't have a clue who PS are, what they stand for or what their songs are about. Either way she has made herself out to look a complete tvv@t, again!

I don't think anyone is saying they are not allowed to play it, but I am hardly surprised that Primal Scream are furious nonetheless.
Am I the only person who finds the thought of Theresa May being associated with a song about getting ones "rocking off" rather nauseating?
Surely "Cat" Stevens would have been more appropriate.

I think Primal Scream are perfectly entitled to register their objections to the use of their music by the Conservative Party. It is their song, and they are entitled to a view about its use in this context.
They are not suggesting for a moment that the venue is transgressing its public entertainment licence by playing the song - their argument is with the party and Mrs may for using it in an inappropriate context.
I am not at all sure that PM Cameron would think you for refering tohis party as 'right wing' AOG - with all the connotations that delivers.
But really, the people who should be outraged are The Rolling Stones, whose signatture riffage has been pilloried wholesale by Primal Scream to furnish their frankly over-rated piece of cod-rock.
Perhaps the Tories shouid consider 'Jumpin' Jack Flash' with its tale of a young man made good from dubious beginnings - surely the message they would want to deliver. It has exactly the same time signature and chugging rhythm - plus it's a far better song.

Cameron is supposed to be a Conservative, and aren't they a Right Wing party?
i think you are getting mixed up between Right-Wing and 'Far Right Wing' Andy.

AOG - I am not getting mixed up at all - I am fully aware of the difference in extremity.
My point is that the term 'right wing' has connotations which a PM trying to be seen as Everyman, and peddling a 'We're all in it together ...' message may not wish to awaken.
After all, to a lot of people, 'right wing' means corrupt, self-serving, out-of-touch, devoid of understanding of how the majority of people live, pompous, arrogant, uncaring ... actually, I stand corrected.
Thanks.
