Where can I find copies of local French newspapers reporting the Normandy Landings in 1944? Do they even exist?

he had by that time been a POW for four years.

Of course it wasn't a second front it was a third front. The Allies had been pushing up through Italy for months and had just conquered (or "liberated", depending on your view) Rome.
