Now that Prince Philip has had the heart scare and has been told to take it easy do you think the Queen might abdicate after the Diamond Jubilee next year?
I can't imagine her carrying on with her duties if he is not by her side.
Also, if she does abdicate and Charles becomes King, will Camilla become Queen or will she be a consort?
I wouldn't have thought so unless she's had enough herself, can't really see a reason why she would. Philip being there isn't really necessary to her own royal duties I guess.
No, whyever should she? IMO when she goes, the succession should pass to William. Charles has already said that if he's made King, Camilla will be his Queen.
The whole point of the monarchy is 'divine right'. If you take that away then they are no different to any other man in the street. Therefore the Queen could not abdicate or she essentially owns up to the fact that none of them ought to have the job in the first place. Likewise you can't just decide to pass old Charlie over because you don't like his choice of wife. They either rule by divine right or we become a republic- nothing else makes sense.
P.S.- I hope Charles does suceed his mother and that Camilla becomes his Queen.
I just thought she relied on PP to help with her duties. It doesn't seem very often that we see her without him.
I wouldn't think the rules of successoin would allow William to be King while Charles is still living.
They go together to events because they are a devoted couple - and he goes to some on his own, the ones he patronises himself. He has been an unselfish supporter of ER all his life.
Boxy surely you saw the Gavin & Stacey Xmas Special...............Gavin's mother is a big Camilla fan and in one part whilst in bed his dad put on the big ears and whispered "Come here Camilla and I'll knight you with my special sword"..............classic!
He's been a bit of an embarrassment now and then hasn't he? But I do not think she will abdicate. Anyone else would not be the same would they? She has been there for such a long time it is difficult to think of someone taking her place. I don't know why I am entering this argument as I am an anti-royalist and would like to see them go, but I can't see that happening so looking at it from a logical viewpoint, no, she will not abdicate.
ihas already been said that camilla will be queen/princess consort
What's the point of having a monarchy that gets power by succession then skipping one?
Why would anyone wish it on William and Kate? Let them have some time to themselves to bring up a family before loading that burden onto their shoulders.
