yes, i mean just because im a muslim does not mean i support the taliban, however in the laws of war which the americans and british mainly created they say treat your enemies with respect, clearly here that was not the case?

sith, one thing i would say, they don't treat their enemies any better, if you look at what they have done to British and American soldiers, they may not urinate on them after death, who knows, but they don't treat them with any respect, so perhaps it's tit for tat

Does anyone remember the Abu Ghraib torture photographs? Apart from anything else, the photographs the torturers took showed them to be really stupid. Photographs like that have a way of getting circulated and they were as good as a signed confession.

And the Taliban treat the enemy with respect sith - look what they did to Gadaffi - I think not. What the Military did was despicable and they will be accountable for their actions, and rightly so, two wrongs do not make a right.

sith, then the taliban will go on killing ordinary Afghan citizens just like before. I wish British servicemen and women had no involvement in Afghanistan, we have been there before endless times, and always came off worse, as did the Russians.

Two wrong don't make a right, totally agree, all the more reason to get out of Afghanistan sooner than later, and not to interfere in these countries ever again. If the Americans want to, then let them go it alone, we shouldn't be part of the worlds policeman

sith, it's not nothing to do - IMO - with the Taliban being Muslim, it's because they are the hated enemy for the American troops, and the Yank soliders see it as a final mark of triumph. Those idiots who peed would probably have done the same if the enemy were terrorists from other countries and faiths. The fact that they are Muslim and bodies should be treated with respect makes it worse for other Muslims (but let's be honest, shouldn't the bodies of ALL dead be treated with respect?).

sith, many would say that to fight terrorism you have to be there on the ground in the thick of it, but most experts say that it is Pakistan one should be targeting, should we go there instead? or hope that if we leave these hot spots alone, they will leave the west alone. That is often the mantra spouted by home grown terrorists, or their cohorts.

I think that's part of the difficulty many people have in understanding what it's really like out there. Those of us with military family members don't even grasp fully what it's like to run that gauntlet of fear every single day that the soldier is out on patrol - your cohort becomes your family and vital to survival - who knows how any of the rest of us would react. Hopefully decency survives in the majority of us, but under those circumstances - who knows?
