I saw on the news recently that drinkers have increased risk of mouth and throat cancers.
I often use mouthwash, which has alcohol in it.

There is no compelling evidence from any respected trials that mouthwash (alcohol containing or otherwise) has anything to do with an increase susceptibility to oral cancers.
