can you ask for a medical establishment to be created after your death?

hi,

i'm just wondering if you can make a provision in your will so that after your death your trustess have to create an establishment? or would the money provided, which would most likely be too little to start up a medical centre be put to a charity which was already created?

This is for UK law, if that matters.

You can will almost enything if you have the money to create it. See the Nobel prize system.

You can't oblige your trustees to do the impossible, so if you say they must create an establishment and you don't leave enough money to do it it's not going to happen

Unless you offer them an alternative (like an exisying charity) then the money's going to be frittered away in legal arguments or sit in limbo for ever.

Yes, the New Cromer Hospital has just been built using money from a legacy they received in 2000. It was £12million, and they still had to add another £1.4million

Well yes but they got willed the majority...I bet a 500 quid legacy wouldn't have done it, also, I know from knowledge that the NHS don't have to accept legacies that will result in on costs not covered by the legacy, eg staffing. The local NHS organisation must have had a plan on how it could be staffed and run, they may have already been planning to provide services from a base in that area.

you can specify what the money is to be used for, but you cannot make the people work for you to make it happen... such as organising the plans, the architect, the permissions, the builders etc...you would have to ensure the money covered hiring a manager and entire crew to do EVERYTHING
