England are over there to play football, not to try and educate school children on the horrors of WW2.

/// Trip was filmed to educate secondary school pupils about the Holocaust ///

Perhaps they could better use this time, practising their football skills, after all isn't that what they are there for?

you know better than their coaches and managers how much practice time they need?

As well as the training, surely its much better than them being bored and basically shackled to their hotel rooms like they were widely reported to be under Cappello in South Africa.

Let us wait and see how they preform in this tournament, before I answer that.
Particularly pertinent, when racism is the topic of the moment in football.

Are you going to offer further advice to Roy Hodgson and the FA , aog ?

Can you never answer a thread with making unnecessary sarcastic remarks, or are you the type of person who is aggressive by nature?
Yes god forbid they should go to a country and pay their respects for an attrocity which happened less than a hundred years ago and in which their grandparents may have been involved. I think it's particular important given the things that are happening at the tournament
Nothing wrong with them visiting, it's not going to make them play any worse.

Petty question really

And how can touring around a historical site, (no matter what horrendous activities took place there 70 years ago), make any difference to the activities of the neo-nazis in that countries football stadiums?

In those circumstances, perhaps it would be more important to show their revulsion, by refusing to play before those thugs?
They are visiting the host country, I think spending time visiting Auschwitz is a mark of respect. They may also visit other tourist attractions whilst they are over there..and why not.
I commented last night that to many youngsters, Auschwitz are a distant past and mean very little. I wonder what it actually meant to the footballers.
I can think of a lot of worse things they could be doing. Don't see the problem anyone could have with this.
You would have thought the way the Nazis treated the Jews would have prevented the way Israel treats its Arab neighbours especially the Palestinians who they treat like dirt.

I have not seen any reports on gas chambers or ovens in Israel, I am sure it would have been in the Guardian.
If their visit brought the holocaust to the attention of just a handful of people, whatever age, then it was a worthwhile trip. Lest we forget.

If they hadn't gone they would probably have faced widespread criticism for insulting the descendants and relatives of the attempted genocide.
if i was on a work trip, i hope i'd have some time off!
actually, who pay for footballers to play for england?
Let us wait and see how they preform in this tournament, before I answer that.

hm, a fair point.

Would have been a fairer point.
Alan Hansen ....eat your heart out.
Terry is a racist, Pearce's brother is a leading light in the BNP! No amount of PR can change that. The trip to Auschwitz fools no one, they should stick to the football.
