Could anybody tell me if there were ever glass bottles made with break off lids/necks? Recently while digging in the garden I found what appears to be the neck of an old bottle, but the very top is complete. I seem to remember years ago seeing a program on tv, showing the ways that glass bottles used to be made, and I'm sure I saw something like this.

I remember seeing something on the box not long ago about a device which was used to cut the tops off of bottles, effectively turning them in to jars. The resultant jars were then supposed to be used creatively to make vases. It was a device wich sat in the top of the bottle, with a scribe down the outside of the bottle neck, which was rotated around and aroud, scoring the glass until it could be cleanly broken. Totally bleedin' stupid. Produced by K-Tel or some other purveyor of useless p!sh.
