Does anyone know of any silmilar historic rituals as the ancient hebrew practise of the scapegoat?;were there any other ancient societies that had rituals resembling this?

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.A lot of ancient (and some not so ancient) societies practised some form of sacrificial offering to their gods in order to appease them for things the people had done wrong as well as to as for good fortune in the future - whether that be part of war preparation or hoping for a good harvest.
I don't know of any specific other examples of goats being the standard sacrifice. Sometimes the sacrifices were human. Aztec society seems to have had this practice and if you were to look up the bog people such as Tollund man you'd find that these people found preserved in peat bogs appear to have been ritually killed many many years ago.
