I have just started a book on Bletchley Park during the war. It states that there were 9 to 10 thousand people working there.

Where did they all sleep and eat as I have the impression that the town of Bletchley was a small one?

My parents were at Bletchley Park, they were found places to stay. One couple they knew rented a house nearby and they stayed with them. Some did sleep at the park as has been suggested.

How could we start one nungate?
They were spread over a wide area as well as on site

I am sure they ran quite a few bus services to get people to work
Not sure how Xstitcher, but where there's a will etc.
Maybe a post in hobbies and see who turns up, we could always set up round Robin or something, though my piece might be a tad late owing to my arthritis and it takes me longer to get a piece completed these days

I can't find any hobbies nungate..can you?
click on society & culture.
Again I'm late with answers - sorry. You can find hobbies and so forth on the Society thread as Vulcan posted yesterday. Am going to be out most of today so I can't post anything over there at present but at some point later I post something.
Oh, I downloaded the Bletchley Park book onto my kindle last night, and as soon as I finish the book I am currently reading I'll be right on it will let you know how I get on

That is super nungate and I have already posted a message there, so we can meet there.

Re Bletchley Park. I am now over half way through it and it just gets better.
Shame it doesn't have a happy ending for Turing!
JTP....Unfortunately life is full of sad endings, but the stories that remain are interesting enough to be told.

At least he got a Manchester thoroughfare named after him........

Wow there are certainly a lot of xstitchers coming out of hiding in hobbies....look for the thread...Calling all Cross Stitchers.....
There are many, many books on Bletchley Park and its activities.
Try these:
'Unravelling Enigma' by Maurice Freedman
pub. Pen & Sword, Barnsley, 2001
'Enigma' by H. Sebag-Montefiore
pub.Phoenix, Lond.2001
'Codebreakers' by Hinsley and Stripp (eds.)
pub. OUP,1993
'The Codebreakers' by D. Kahn
pub.Sphere,1973
'Enigma' by Robert Harris
pub.QPD, Lond. 1995

The coverage on Bletchley Park has been extensive. I am surprised that there is any more to say on the subject.
