On The Chase tonight the question was 'what country was Boris Yeltsin the President of' and the given answer of USSR was wrong and the correct one was Russia. Was this unfair do you think?

It was. Yeltsin was president of the USSR for 1 day, 25 Dec, 1991. After that he was President of Russia.
Not really

Gorbachev famously dissolved the USSR

so no one post-Gorbachev could be President of it.
The answer is correct. He was president for one day. Why is a question is a bit 'iffy do they use it. There are more mistakes on the Chase than any oher programme

Thanks all. You're right gollob, there was something very iffy last week (although I can't remember what).
Yeltsin was never the President of the USSR.

On 25 December 1991, Gorbachev resigned as the President of the USSR, declaring the office extinct. He turned the powers that had been vested in the presidency over to Yeltsin (who had been President of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic since 12 June 1991) and from that point on the Office was that of President of the Russian Federation.

Yes I thought it was a bit rough not letting that one through.

I always feel the chasers questions are a tad easier than the contestants!

Shaun is definitely the weakest of the lot and a meanie! I also find myself strangely attracted to old frosty knickers Ann.
