When the owner of this greyhound decided he wanted to get rid of it he cut off its ears, so it couldn't be identified by the markings there, and dumped it by the side of the road. If he's ever caught he should get a lifetime ban from keeping any animal.

Unfortunately these beautiful creatures are considered disposable when they can no longer race. I just read of a rescue dog who'd had bleach or acid poured in her ears in an attempt to remove the tattoo. Its truly sickening.

There was a sad story about a baby elephant in the Mail on Sunday. I can't tell you what it was about because I couldn't bring myself to read it.
I am feeling bad enough for snarling at Merlin for meowing loudly in my ear and head-butting me. How can people chop off the ears of a dog or chain up a baby elephant?
We should castrate (I will presume that most are male) people capable of such crimes to prevent them breeding a new generation of evil persons.

Sandy - I couldn't bear to look either. It is disgraceful. Poor dog.
Greyhounds are quite placid. People who treat animals with cruelty see it as acceptable and it sometimes doesn't stop there (ssadly) - they can be cruel to children too. I hope when caught the punishment reflects the seriousness - its an evil act.

Woofgang, although despicable acts like this do happen they are extremely rare, and the number of dogs reunited through microchips or tattoos is extremely high. You cannot legislate for cruel or insane people, who will abuse animals no matter what you do. However I would prefer to have mine identified in the hope that they would be returned to me if lost or stolen.
