Anyone agree that the BBC's saturation coverage of Nelson Mandela's life and death a bit much? How many more gushing people do they need to interview?

Yes and I don't know.
Starting to feel that way, but I understand why - he's been a major world figure. It'll probably go on until the State funeral a week tomorrow - Obama's already said he's attending.
I agree Dave (there have been a few threads about this already). The TV has lots of other options but the radio has been saturated with it. have they had the Spice Girls on yet?
They cancelled HIGNFY last night... :-(
Wonder when he will be canonised - seems to be going that way.
Same question was raised on here yesterday

Yes but they always do! How many times do we have to hear that he was a great man? Nobody is ever going to say something bad about him in public are they?
Boxy,
Wasn't cancelled, was moved to 23.30. I was a bit miffed though.
No, and why are people that want pay tribute to him ladled "gushing"?

It isn't just the BBC that is paying tribute to him. Every major newspaper and media organisation on the planet are giving this news coverage. What did anyone expect to happen for goodness's sake !

Mandela was one of the greatest political figures of the last 100 years. He can only die once....why are some people on AB keen to deny him the respect he deserves ?
I agree with Mikey. I've enjoyed watching the programmes and finding out things I never knew.
The trouble with some here on AB ummm, is that they know little and refuse to learn any more. They have made their minds up and no amount of education and facts is going to make a scrap of difference.
i have avoided the news for this reason far too much coverage and same stuff being rolled out all the time
It is sad when someone dies, especially such an influential man who changed the face of SA for the better.

But, he was an old, frail man who had a very long life. He is at least now at peace. My thoughts are with his family and friends who are mourning the man not the legend.
I've watched and listened to several programmes and learned things since Thursday night. I had no mind on him that needed changing. Just because some prefer to watch their usual programmes doesn't mean they know nothing nor care little for Mandela. The first person I heard interviewed and gushing over him was Tony Blair - now his opinion I wasn't interested in - but I did listen.
I think it is inevitable when any news item receives protracted media coverage that not everyone will respond in the same way. Some people may even change their stance from interested to apathetic. I doubt that will change the habits of the media though.
No disrespect to Nelson Mandela but the BBC is going overboard when they show a video entitled "The minute before we knew".

He was a great friend of Gadaffi and Mugabe .He lauded them for their great achievements .
typical BBC and their left wing agenda

are they showing the details of his terrorist history and other terrorist friends....nah didnt think so ?

hes hardly any differnt to Gerry Adams, Martin Mcguinness et al
I suppose it'll all carry on until after his funeral. At least he made a huge difference to millions of people during his life. How many people will do that in their lifetimes? There won't be this attention when any other politician dies, no matter who they were. This is really a one-off occasion.
the bbc did go overboard, they announced his death, went over to Zuma.s speech live then their S A correspondent told us what he had said and then the bbc newsreader told us again. Did we have to hear it three times?
