No.
what, on AB? We should just ban actual Nazis.
Have we got a list of banned words?
I think there is but of course you can't read it because they're banned. But any dictionary of 17th-century thieves' cant should give you the idea.
How can anyone accuse someone else of being, or acting like, a Nazi if they ban the use of the word?

How the heck are they going to teach their kids about the Holocaust without being able to make reference to the perpetrators?

I can sort of see where they are coming from but it is just plain wrong. It stifles debate and hides it when it should be bought to the fore and exposed. For example can you imaging going to the old bill to report a Nazi without saying the word - Charades maybe ?

Especially when you see this:

Also, using words that sound like 'Nazi' to indirectly refer to someone as an insult would also incur punishment.

Sound like ? How can you ban that?

And no, we dont need to ban the word.
Could it be a move designed to stop themselves being referred to as Nazis in comments about their dealings with the Palestinians?
Hypo, they are excluding for educational purposes. But where is the line and what is education?

Look there is a Nazi would be banned but reference to something in a book would not I guess.
I see they also want to ban the Jewish star of David symbol when used in the context of the internment camps or in reference to the holocaust. Strange that a country that has a holocaust museum wants to ban a powerful symbol and the word Nazi, both synonymous with the terrible atrocities that took place.
Why not NKVD ?
they could ban the words Nick Griffin while they are at it.

No. I don't agree with banning words.

Shouldn't the plural of Nazi be Nazi's?

Goodbye To The 'Nazi's'

No, it shouldn't.

A bit pointless banning a word if the rest of the word use it.

Germany ban the display of the Swastika symbol. Another pointless gesture.
I wondered what on earth Overy was talking about for a moment there, but of course he's joking. Nazis it is.

Well most seem to agree that words should not be banned, even if they might offend others.
Gromit, I think the swastika ban is to remove a potential rallying point for neo-Nazis in Germany itself, which is fine by me. The assumption is that it would otherwise appear on clothing, posters etc and drag Germany's name through the mud.

Neo-Nazism has at times seemed a genuine threat, so I can see their point. I'm not sure what threat Israel sees in the word Nazi; I think it's more about bringing back bad memories.
Blimey, Gromit, Giles' Grandma was more right wing than Nick Griffin........
