Wow, scary. Cannot imagine what it might have been like to have been on the escalator and taken a look over your shoulder at that...

like the film Silver Streak.... grief
Question Author
the noise must have deafening - i wouldn't have been standing there for long
Tut, tut; women drivers:-)
Question Author
she was quite new to the job apparently
2nd time she'd fallen asleep at the controls!! Could it happen here?
I don't know - I did think there were supposed to be measures in place to prevent stuff like this from happening, but evidently not, at least in Chicago.
I've been there before (as a passenger on that train-not a driver!) and am going again in a few weeks time! Understand they are running shuttle buses while they move the train and assess damage. Hope that situation doesn't last as long as it usually does in UK. Agree it's a miracle no one was killed. Thank god it wasn't during the day time, those escalators are usually packed.
Question Author
the safety measures failed according to the report
\\\Could it happen here?\

Well certainly not on the Circle Line.
Question Author
this was at the airport,
we have had train crashes and of course the 7/7 bombings, i hate our underground, i use it but don't ever feel comfortable on it.
//Could it happen here? //

on the underground, no. measures put in place after the Moorgate crash in 1975 would prevent it.
Question Author
not to mention that it wouldn't end up going up the escalator, at least one hopes not
Amazing that there were only minor injuries.
Dare I ask if the train driver still has a job?
Question Author
don't know, but seems she hadn't been doing it for long.
Brilliant response from Sqad.
\\\Could it happen here?\

\Well certainly not on the Circle Line. \\

actually that's not strictly true. the circle line has for a few years comprised an "end to end" service from Edgware Road, anticlockwise via Victoria and Tower Hill back to Edgware Road and then via Westbourne Park to Hammersmith. this was done to try and improve reliability.
mushroom...LOL..you spoil everything....-;)
