Thanks Mark. It say " georgius IV thereon.
Is the image of George or Victoria?
If George, are you sure the date isn't 1826 or 1816?
Forget 1816. He didn't come to the throne 'til 1820. Doh.

Sorry Stuey, no idea where Mark? came from. It states Georgius IV thereon
Graham-W could be on the right track, although 1816 would be George III. I think he's right in saying it's probably 1826 and quite worn, so that the date and the portrait are indistinct. A "worn" George IV could look like Victoria.
Which way is the portrait facing?
Here's a picture of a George IV sixpence. It wouldn't take much wear for the 2 to look like a 9.

Hover your cursor over the date for an enlargement and you'll see what I mean.
that would look like a 9, wouldn't it.
My question regarding which way the portrait is facing is irrelevant since both George and Victoria were facing to the left. I had forgotten about William IV who was facing to the right.
