Footbridge Over Potsdamer Platz?
In Wim Wenders Wings of Desire / Himmel auf Berlin there are a number of scenes in Potsdamer Platz which at the time was just a wide expanse of desolate wasteland split between east and west.
In the background there appears to be a footbridge which obviously disappeared in the post-unification development of the area, if not earlier.
Does anyone know where it started and went to?
TIA

Quite difficult to find out exactly what it was used for, but will have another look later. There was a border crossing at Potsdamer Platz, but not until 1989.

Thanks Slaney that's the thing I'm talking about. It's puzzling because there are people actually on top of it suggesting it's like a conduit or similar
The house in the backgound is the Weinhaus Huth which now faces/backs onto Linkstrasse and looking on Google Earth there are pink pipes running in the same direction as the photo. There's pipes like this all over the city centre but I've always assumed they appeared after the wall came down to link the two halves, maybe it's something similar

There is some discussion here that may help pinpoint the answer:

It seems Berlin has always had a groundwater problem, so the 'overhead' in the old shots could be underground pipes now
The other explanation could involve communal heating pipes.

Cheers Mosaic, I always forget about Toytown Germany. Having posted on there it turns out its the track for the MagLev M-Bahn (Magnet Bahn) that was built in the late 80s to fill the transport gap caused by the Wall but opened just as it came down
If I knew how to paste a working link there would be a wikipedia page about it
