Why Do Thai Police Wear Parachute Badges?

When I lived in Thailand some years ago, I noticed most of the police there have parachute wings badges all over their uniforms. I doubt very much if any of them would know one end of a parachute from another, so was just wondering why this is-anyone know the answer?

well thanks for clearing that up.So they do actually do earn their wings. I always thought they were just a bunch of show offs....
