Churchill In Retrospect.

A few people have been writing to my local paper recently saying how modern day politicians are pretty poor and don't compare with the likes of Winston Churchill.

But Winston Churchill was 65 when he became Prime Minister during WW2.

But I think if he had died at say aged 63 he would have only been remembered as a average politician who made a fair number of terrible mistakes.

Remember he was sacked from his job in WW1 after the disastrous Gallipoli campaign.

Indeed, VHG. Perhaps Churchill was somewhat lucky to be judged so well by history. For all that, he deserves to be remembered for his wartime leadership, and I hope that those who admire him greatly can accept his character flaws. Some of them were of the time. None take away from the role he played in WWII.

It's fact, isn't it, VHG, that "great" people are always shrouded in controversy, especially after their death?
