Google Maps Sat Nav Is Not Accurate .

according to google maps its a 1hr 15 min drive from hastings to folkstone using the main A road and not the coastal route.
my friend who lives in folkstone told me it is only a 40 min drive for sure as he has done it a few times.
im due to start work on monday and plan driving this route and dont want to be late .

do you find that google maps allways give a more slower time for a car to get from A-B.

reason also i as is i was recently in aberdeen, it stated on google maps it was a 4hr 50 min drive from aberdeen to cairnryan ferry port. i done this journey in 3 hrs and that was even me taking a wrong turn at sterling and ending up in edinburgh lol i still made ferry with 2 hours to kill ;-)

That can be quite a busy road so maybe 40 mins is a very generous estimate - yes the times are a little subjective but I rarely set a schedule thats tight because of traffic etc so I dont always monitor their estimate.

I think there must be hold-ups at present because AA give the time as being
1 hr 31mins for the 45 miles ..' in current traffic'.

Well, there's your answer.
If I were you I'd do the vital journey before the day that it was necessary, just to check the timing and possible pitfalls. But that's because I always get hopelessly lost, wherever I go.

Well it's just under 40 miles on the shortest route and up through Rye & Camber is very slow, don't forget as well that the M20 is closed coastbound for Operation Stack between 8 & 11 so you're back onto the A20.

I`m not sure the M20 coastbound is entirely closed for stacking lorries - we sailed past 11 miles worth a few days ago but the were just lined up along the inside lane with gaps for junctions.

Remember that traffic volume can have a huge impact on timing. I'm not from that part of the country but even in the wilds of Cumbria, a stray flock of sheep or a tractor can add a few minutes to your journey ;)

I have always found my DAT have timing to be very accurate to be honest.

my hours of work are 7am - 7pm . so at 5.40 / 6am im guessing these roads will be fairly quiet ? or not ?

i dont care about getting home late to folkstone im just concerned about being late.

don't forget as well that the M20 is closed coastbound for Operation Stack between 8 & 11 so you're back onto the A20.

It won't affect you Folkestone to Hastings but Hastings to Folkestone it will no matter what time of day, so are you living in Folkestone & working in Hastings or vice versa as it sounded as if you needed to get to Folkestone for a 7am start?

As the distance is approx 45miles, your friend would need to do an average or constant speed of 67.5mph.to complete the journey in 40mins.

The AA gives the normal time factor of 1hr 11mins and the RAC put it at 1hr 12mins. Consequently I don't think you can quarrel with Googles figure of 1hr 15mins.

They are based on the real road speeds and conditions - as you know a speed limit may be 60 mph down a single bendy country lane with walls and ditches at the very side of the road, that doesn't mean you would drive at 60mph for the whole length of it

They also use current traffic conditions to estimate the time, and in my experience they are accurate.

Mine too hc. Over the last 30 years I've driven a minimum of 25k per year throughout Britain and never achieved more than about 55mph average (and that includes clogging it home up the M1 / M5 /M74 / A1M etc etc).

I'm always surprised when I reach the end of my journey and find that I've arrived when my satnav said I would. Clever things!
