If a soldier was given a bounty of £50 in 1712 what would the equivalent in todays money be. Also if he was given 1 shilling each day on leaving the army how much is a shilling worth today.

I thought there was some sort of conversion website, but I cannot find it, thank you for any help.

a huge range of results there... It really depends what basis they use to cmopare things with (the price of a loaf of bread? House prices?) You probably just have to take your pick.

True. My parents bought a TV in 1956 for £80. According to the RPI that would be £1682 today but TVs cost nothing like that these days.

Oh since this is History
the first person to tot up what everyone was doing and how much it was worth was 1665 and his name was Pettit

and he had invented ( altho he didnt know it ) the concept of the GDP !

On of my skool frenz had a rich relation who had had a Baird television before the war
