Obesity
We have just had a lovely holiday in Cyprus I have never seen so many overweight people bordering on obesity young and old surely this is a serious problem that should be addressed sooner than later mostly Brits

well i for one think there is a serious problem that really needs to be addressed. cheaper vegetables and fruit and more expensive beers and cigarettes and junk food as in kfc / mcdonalds etc. cheaper government run leisure centres. i joined pure gym for instance which cost me £18 a month but the government run centre near me would be double that.

Douglas - behave, or is something that there is fat chance of happening.
I am fat and very unfit, I can't deny it as it is obvious. I am constantly trying to lose weight. This is MY problem.
Because obesity can clearly be seen some people feel the need to poke fun at us or they belittle (!!) and/or bully us. When their lives are perfect and they are the model citizens the they can come back and pick on us fatties

I'm sure it'd be nice to get everyone a healthy weight and live a healthy lifestyle but there are no easy answers in a free society. We're still learning about why folk get fat and why some seem to crave more food than others. It's easy for those who naturally live a slimline lifestyle to suggest that it's the same for all, but others know differently. Society is aware of the issue and is investigating causes/fixes already. We'll know in due course what the base causes really are.

I think weight issues are a mixture of psychological issues and addiction. I think there are a lot of comfort eaters out there, poor self esteem, depression, unresolved issues, previous abuse, medical problems, social anxiety. Coupled with the addictive nature of junk food which acts as a comforter. Reducation and Cognitive behaviour therapy is needed. And I agree about gym membership being too expensive!
It's never as simple as just being lazy and greedy. There is always something behind it, even the most cheerful fat man who loves food, there is always an issue in the background.

Just did a quick online check. You buy a lettuce, pack of tomatoes, cucumber, pack of ham and a bag of mixed salad (rocket, spinach etc) more than enough to make a healthy meal for 4-6 people. Total cost in Sainsbury £5.25. Price for a medium Big Mac meal is £4.29 per head (total for 6 people = £25.74)...nuff said...
