Apparently the government fed back false information through its double agents that the V1 flying bombs were overflying London and landing in the northern suburbs. The Germans then adjusted the flight characteristics which was good news for central London and the seat of Government but not so good for the people of south London!

Thanks Lads.
Just as a side note, I remember hearing that the university districts of Oxford and Cambridge were never bombed because the Germans agreed not to if we showed similar respect to their two major universities. The agreement was upheld. It seems a shame that more of this kind of cooperation wasn't employed during the war.

As an aside, Buckingham Palace had a bomb fall on it, as did St Pauls Cathedral.
