I always thought that after a full stop, whether on its own or bottom of a question mark or a colon, there had to be two spaces after it - typing of course - but now I've been told that only one space is necessary and even the rule!...which is right or wrong? one space or two? Ta Muchly.
It always used to be 2 spaces after a full stop but I was informed that it had been reduced to 1. I expect someone has calculated how much time it saves. Incidentally you will notice that I have used 2.
//Two word spaces (English Spacing). It is sometimes claimed that the two-space convention stems from the use of the monospaced font on typewriters, but in fact that convention replicates much earlier typography — the intent was to provide a clear break between sentences.[26] This spacing method was gradually replaced by the single space convention in published print, where space is at a premium, and continues in much digital media.[25][27]
Blimey! What a great response. But then, what can one expect from such ABers. Ta Very Much All and as I'm still not sure what to do, I'll stick to two - or maybe not; wish I could do one and a half! Somewhere in this lot, there are spaces a plenty, some right, some wrong. Just for the hell of it.
