does anyone know what the word EELDUB means

i was looking at an old map of the area i live (glasgow ) and noticed an area on the map that looked like it was a small pond it was named EELDUB does anyone know what it means      thanks

A dub is a muddy pool, so I'd guess an 'eeldub' is such a pool frequented by eels. 'Dubs' is a word commonly used in Scotland to mean 'mud'.

....... and here is some mud, and here is an eel ....

I recently visited Mountfitchett Castle in Essex, a mock wooden Norman fortification. Within the walls was a carp pond, used to feed the inhabitants during winter months. I would imagine a similar thing was done with eels. I bit like your modern day tanks of lobsters in resturants.
