When he raised the famous signal "England expects every man this day to do his duty" (or flags to that effect), one Scottish sailor turned to a compatriot and asked why Nelson had said 'England' rather than 'Britain'. He got the reply: "Och! He kens fine the Scots will dae their duty, mon!"
