we thought tenderly of the Germans and Japanese whilst we bombed the crap out of them in 1944-45 ? I dont think so

They just thought of different things - in July 1945, the war planners thought the Pacific War would go on for at least 5 years - with invasion of the Japanese Mainland 1950-52 with up to a million casualties
