good early film - very different to that used in The Great War ( 1964) to those with discs or long memories
it is a pity they dont clearly label the film which is a re enactment - presumably most of it - I mean taxis DID take poilus to the front at the Marne - bjt I dont think anyone mounted a camera on a dashboard in real time
Louvain / Leuven has been burnt - and that WAS filmed in real time
It was trumpeted as a triumph of Kulturkampf - later named as a specific war crime - and the Germans later said ' oops we did that one by mistake"
Marne casualties - 200 000 - I hadnt realised the slaughter started that early
some re-enactments were filmed very shortly after the original, for fake-newsreel purposes, I believe. There was an exhibition on the subject of war films at the Imperial War Museum recently.
are you doing the vietnam war ( yesterday ) I think
blimey it looks as tho the americans are gonna win
( like John Wayne did , in the film )
the NVA generals saying - jesus the americans were knocking us around we were near to giving up ....
(not quite like in the War of Ten Thousand Days when the same lot were saying the opposite)
