Is Greater London In South East

I always thought Greater London was in south east England but...

Now I’m not so sure as Greater London seems to be excluded on maps of south east England.

I’m looking for the LEGAL definition of if greater London is ... south east of or is separate

Well JimF I would have thought same when you said :

But the northern part of Greater London used to fall under “Hertfordshire” and herts is geographically known as the “east” not the “south east”

yes, for European Parliament purposes, Farage is South East MEP but doesn't (obviously) represent London.

That's a sort of semi-official designation of south-east, though the old regions no longer have any particular powers.

When I googled ‘maps of SE england’ some had it, some didn’t. I don’t think there’s anything to read into that.

Is there a legal definition ? I'd have thought it subjective and in certain cases needing defining by the person using the term.

Exactly, OG. That's why I asked if the OP meant Geographically or Politically.

Politically and statistically, there are nine regions in England, each of which has its own minister. One of those regions is London which includes all of Greater London.

The South East is a separate Region so Greater London is outwith the SE (on that basis anyway.)

The OP was looking for maps of Greater London and they weren't to be found within the maps of South-East England. My rather simple reasoning is that G.L. maps are in more detail (ie bigger scale) than the rest of the South-East and so are shown separately.
