in the army what are the ranks of officers? (eg lowest rank(sgt?) to highest rank(general?))

The lowest officer rank is Lance Corporal who is a NCO (Non Commissioned Officer). There is a difference between Commissioned and Non Commissioned. Sergeant is the Oldest rank on record and dates back to the 10th centuary. Officer ranks were introduced much later.
