INn the major outbreak in London they traced the source of the cholera epidemic to a particular water pump. By closing the pump they limited the source of the infection.
An interesting side issue was the use of homoeopathy. This may be the first serious 'trial' of what was once mainstream medicine, and now is termed alternative medicine.
One doctor treated his patients homoeopathically, and achieved substantially better survival percentages than those doctors who used allopathic medicine. I seem to recall that you were 10 times more likely to survive with the homoeopathic treatment than with allopathic.
