I ordered just a couple more things than normal - couple of extra cartons of milk, and couple loaves of bread for freezer.( loo rolls were ‘unavailable’ for 2nd week running). He delivered 7 crates to the door, which I thought was a lot.
The guy dropped it all off and said ‘thank god for a small delivery!”. What do you mean I said. He said that people have gone so insane bulk buying that he has been delivering FIFTY - SIXTY crates to individual households!! Hundreds of loo rolls, hand washes etc......
Mad!!

Really? They can’t do more than 2 delivery per time then as the van can’t hold more than 100 crates at a time?

That’s what he said and I’ve known him ages. Anyway Tesco have now put a stop on it and you can’t order more than 95 items in one order.
we just had a delivery from ASDA, the driver said people are buying bog roll again! what is it with bog roll? do imbeciles feed on it or what?
Smowball, I think maybe only one or two customers could have tried that - Tesco would have been hammered in the press if they were seen to be allowing panic-buying, such selfishness etc.
You’ve got be going it some to buy 95 items. I’ve just checked my list from today and I ordered 68 items, which included all food and drink (including lunchboxes and treats) for the week. I use Asda and last time they limited orders to a maximum of 3 of each item, which did cause me some problems.

I hope it was just a couple. Mind you earlier today I had to nip to my local Lidl as I had forgotten something on my order and they were doing the same in there - trolleys stacked with loo rolls, hand wash, baby wipes etc..... literally overflowing!
Tesco have had a limit on the number of items you can order since March - it used to be 80 but has been 95 for some time now so I’m not clear how someone could order 50+ crates
The fuss people made at the shop where I work last time was outrageous, hissy fits because stuff had to be ‘rationed’, ridiculous reasons as to why they had to have something, they were acting like children.
I agree the 95 limit has been on some time , I have hit the max a few times and it was no where near 50 crates
Smowball, I think your delivery driver was ... exaggerating, mistaken or a fantasist!

My order today was 87 items but that was counting even things like one tiny garlic clove as an item
I suppose you could fill up a lot of crates if you were buying multi packs of stuff, bulky tinned stuff or the super big packs of stuff.
TTT - // ... what is it with bog roll? do imbeciles feed on it or what? //

If you think about it, it's the one essential that you really can;t do without.

Just about anything else you can manage without, or substitute something else, but loo roll is something every single person uses every day, and it's the first thing people panic about not having - hence panic buying, which leads to shortages and ... more panic buying!!

I don’t know how accurate he was but I believe people have been stupidly overbuying
9nly 95 items ? But I need hundreds and thousands for the cakes !
Question Author
Sherrdadk - exactly. You can buy 5 x 18 pk of loo rolls and it just get classed as 5 items
Why are people stockpiling toilet rolls when The Guardian is a perfectly acceptable substitute?

Lol OG and Jackdaw.
I got my Tesco delivery today. Driver said pasta and loo rolls are going rapidly.
Oh this is mad. Just recently I couldn’t buy more than two bottles of the same wine. I need loads of wine. I’m not stockpiling!
My dad (who I shop for) asked me if people were panic buying loo rolls again, because of what he’d read in the papers.

I’ve seen no stockpiling so far but now the rumours are going around people will grab all the loo rolls.
