Is there a website where I can check if a German friend’s village is OK? I know that her general area is affected.

What’s the name of the village?
Question Author
Hoenningen, on the River Ahr.
I’ve just had a look for news on that area. The latest report under “news” is 6 hours ago and refers to the bland topic of advertising and a planned festival of sort (it’s in German so I can only make out the bare gyst of it)

Therefore I’d presume the flooding isn’t an issue there,

Also had a look on the flood alert area n it doesn’t seem to be ur friends area
The campsite has been closed but campers have been given until 10pm tonight to vacate their pitches (after the closure announcement this morning), so it seems that there's no great urgency involved. The ferry there has continued to run.

Otherwise the regional newspaper, Rhein-Zeitung, has found nothing worthy of reporting about Bad Hönningen, indicating that there's probably not too much to worry about. The photographs on their website give an indication of the level of flooding in the area:

Thank you very much. The last I heard was that her power had failed and that her next door neighbour's cellar was flooded. Nothing since.
Bad Hönningen (on the Rhine) isn't the same as Hönningen (on the Ahr, district of Ahrweiler). The latest "UPDATE SITUATION REPORT: HEAVY RAIN AND FLOODING ON THE AHR" on the district administration web page is here:
https://kreis-ahrweiler.de/landkreis/lagebericht-starkregen-und-hochwasser-an-der-ahr/
I can't see any specific mention of Hönningen.
From BBC report: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-57858829
"In the western German district of Ahrweiler, up to 1,300 people are unaccounted for, the authorities say. A spokeswoman for the local government said mobile networks had been put out of action, making it impossible to contact many people."
and
"Even the authorities say they don't know for sure how many people are missing. There is no phone signal in much of the region, making communication all but impossible. But the death toll is expected to rise today and with every hour that passes the magnitude of this disaster becomes ever clearer.

All along the River Ahr there are flooded homes, broken bridges, the twisted remains of campsites and caravan parks. For many of the dazed people we met surveying the damage here, it's almost impossible to imagine clearing up and starting again."

Many thanks to you all. Just heard from her. No power and no running water but her house is safe. Slightly higher than the neighbours' houses. She is able to cook in her campervan parked in the garden.
Glad to hear it, MWG14, but let's not forget the ones who haven't been so lucky. :-(
Greta must be having a thromby.
