Are there any everyday sounds that for some reason greatly irritate you ?
Personally i cannot stand the sound of a hot drink being poured into a cup or glass, am i alone?
Other liquid based outpourings dont bother me in the slightest, i like the sounds of a waterfall or a babbling brook, but if an advert comes on involving tea or coffee pouring i have to reach for the mute button on my remote. Cant explain it.

I am exactly the same surreyman - I also hate the sound of hit drinks pouring - odd isn't it? I also cannot stand the sight or sound of anyone cleaning their teeth, including me!! I have to close my eyes and have the water on full to try and drown out the sound. If it occurs on tv or film, I have to close my eyes and wait for it to be over.

How can you tell if a drink being poured is hot or cold?

There you go, an aural exmple - thanks Corby.

For reasons I don't understand, I have picked up on the difference, and I wish I didn't, but I do, and can't stop it.
Every day's a school day. Never noticed the difference before.

The problem may be, you will never be able to 'un-hear' the difference, it's with your forever now!

Hopefully you won't hate the 'hot' sound like surreyman and I do!!
It might be that some can hear the difference at any time while others hear it only when there's a comparison.

Good point.

I wish I could lose my dislike of the sound, it's an annoyance, not major or life-changing, but no-one likes annoyances in their lives do they.
In the video in the link, the second pour sounded like it was more bubbly or frothy than the first and it was easy for me to spot that difference.

It leaps out at me instantly.

But other things do as well. If they re-record a tv theme tune, they do it with Corrie periodically, i can instantly hear the difference. Same with re-records of pop songs for adverts, where the sound difference is really minimal, I still hear it instantly.

I drive my wife crazy pointing these things out, she can never understand why I hear these differences.

Maybe that's why I don't like 'trbute' bands - because a lot of people are happy to hear the songs played on stage, but for me, it is so obviously and jarringly different, that I can't listen and enjoy it.
Sometimes in a tune, I'm not able to identify a specific instrument or a sound but if it's missing, I can.
That's not to say I can then identify it, only that I know it's missing.

Another advert based sound that bugs the hell out of me more than it probably should is whispering, again cant really explain it but apparently lots of people like it and call it ASMR.

Oh yes, you can add that the dozens of sounds I find annoying.

Actually, whispering like that is quite a skill - but not necessarily one that anyone should wish to aquire!!

Another thing I hate is the false 'voice crack' when pop singers try to show 'emotion' that they are not old enough to have experienced and understood.

Aaaaaarrrrggggghhhhhhhh!!
The squeak of polystyrene blocks rubbing together. Ugghh!
Interesting...before I even listened to Corby's link I was thinking that hot sounded "thicker". I also thought that might sound silly but it was the best way to describe it.
Whispering irritates me too - especially when it crops up in a TV commercial. I also can't stand the sound of someone sniffing instead of blowing their nose.
Verisure adverts and the Wowcher adverts with that screeching Canadian woman, mute button to hand. I can't think of any general sounds though.

I think blowing your nose is something that should be done out of sight and hearing of every single other person in the world.
