The chief of the army, Gen Sir Patrick Saunders, has said the UK must prepare to fight and beat Putin's troops in a land war.

I'm sure that many of them would do that, sandyRoe.
It sounds to me a bit like the attitude of some in the first world war that cavalry, chivalry and being British (or French) would ensure vicrtory and that aircraft woukd be useless. If the UK were to send 'our lads' out east to fight Russian troops, there would certainly be a huge multi-nation war, and there's enough nutters in charge to make it a cert that nuclear weapons would be used. Satellites would go, GPS and comms would go, and we'd be back to WW1 days.
ermmm... Hang on, maybe we'd better requisition all racehorses!

There would be rationing of fuel, food, perhaps no internet.
It doesn't bear thinking about.
Possibly a conscription if it ever happened Sandy,( they’d fill their pants if called up I’m sure)
If there to be conscription, I wonder if it would apply to those in Ulster, unlike WWII?
Would all the Conscipts be issued with
Yellow high vis jackets and White builders helmets.
The young people of today are much maligned, mainly because of the negative news that they attract. A US newspaper publisher once said, "Good news doesn't sell newspapers", and that applies today. Stories of young people doing good things, doing what's expected of them, do not get much publicity. The British Army has many young people who are doing their duty, and they are volunteers, not conscripts, but do they get much publicity? No, they do not. If the call comes, I am sure that many, many young people would answer that call.

There'd be a rush to join the Police Reserve(B Specials they were called back in the day) . They'd serve at home protecting us all from 5th Columnists.
If the country was threatened, i believe many of our young people would enlist. They're not all idle, dope-smoking layabouts.
Sorry for digression . How are you feeling today Sandy.
Not obliged to reply . :-)

Anne,
Pretty good. Had a long walk early this morning and have decided to limit my fluid intake to tea and fuzzy water.
Ken I know many many law abiding , non dope smoking ,non layabout young people , my grandson being one of them and his friends, my post wasn’t a slur at their integrity, but I do think they’d be a massive shock to the system
As i'm sure it was back in the day, Bobs. :-)
Good to know Sandy. ( on your own ) ?
Question Author
Yes.
It must have been very frightening to get those call up papers Ken , I hope it never ever happens again
Fuzzy water sounds like the stuff that I knock back, Sandy. My Renal consultant is disappointed at my inability to reduce my intake of Pepsi Max.

I think that as a species we are not developing and becoming civilised as we should do. Wars are no true solution to anything and it is quite sad that we never learn the lessons of what war does to people.

People wonder why I am fascinated by animal psychology (apart from humans), it is because, overall, humans can be nasty animals.

Send in the pensioners - most are bloody minded & don't have much to live for!
Oi,I’ve got everything to live for and more here :0)))))
They filled their pants in the last wars, so what would be the difference if they did now. Its called fear I think, ( normal)
