'My Family and Other Animals' by the Gerald Durrell is my favourite - just.I've read and re-read every one of his books but this is the only one that remains in my bookshelf. Pure escapism with the description of pre-war Corfu, the natural history of course, but the stars have to be his wildly eccentric and wholly lovable family.
Can't leave out 'Dark Quartet' by Lynne Reid Bank. The real story of the Bronte family..or 'The Snow Geese' by William Fiennes. A real gem.
