I believe in the spirits of people who have passed over.
I certainly don't believe in ghosts or any form of 'after-life'. One thing that I do accept, however, is that there might be some types of 'undiscovered forces'.

Let me give you an analogy: For millions of years, animals have had muscles, nerves and brains. These all function due to the passage of electrical signals within the body. Similarly, there's been electricity elsewhere in nature (e.g. thunderstorms) for millions of years. Yet electricity was only 'discovered' about 250 years ago. It seems reasonable to assume, therefore, that there might be other 'forces' which have always been with us but have yet to be formally 'discovered'. It might just be then, that some form of 'photographic record' of past activity can become embedded in, say, buildings. So, just possibly, a few sitings of 'ghosts' might be due to these 'images' becoming visible. All of this is, I accept, unlikely but, since I've got a scientific background, I don't think that I can completely dismiss the possibility.

What I do feel certain of is that, if such 'ghostly images' do exist, they can't interact with humans (or any other animals) any more than photographs or movies can.

Chris
Following what Chris says, the late Thomas Lethbridge, an author and scientist who lived in Devon, was driving along a country road with his wife. A car coming towards them swerved to its left and went through the hedge into a field. Lethbridge stopped and found no car and no hole in the hedge. He did find a section of hedge that had been regrown about 30 years earlier (the age of the car that they had both seen). He looked up the local paper and found that an accident had occurred in that place, 30 years earlier, involving a car of the kind that the couple had seen. His theory was that in cases of shock, the waves emitted by the brain can be recorded on some unknown medium, and can be replayed to a brain that is in tune to them. Similarly, many reported ghosts have particularly shocking circumstances which, if L's theory is correct, could be similarly recorded.
i dont believe in ghosts, spirits or bogey men, and wont untill i see one for my self

Took the words right out of my mouth cliffsdoll.

Chriss theory echos my own. These recordings often occur near water, or very damp environments. I liken them to video recordings. Not necessarily of traumatic occurrences. Take for example the pub it the south, where the land lord saw roman soldiers marching through his cellar, their legs were two feet under the cellar floor. However, from personal experience, I know there to be survival of the soul, loved ones do not just disappear.

i hope one of them comes and eats yu alive

i'll tell you my story.

i am 45. when i was 16 i worked at a 'berni inn'. i was a bit of a dogsbody doing what i was told. one day i was in the cellar sorting bottles. a young girl walked by (white dress but not whispy or floaty...just normal). i said hello and she ignored me. the route she took was a one way route and i was in the way of her returning.

it was normal for children to be wandering because the landlord had children and sometimes they had friends (hide and seek etc).

when i had finished i shouted to her..no reply. so i went to the cellar exit and informed one of the older staff that there was a girl downsatirs and i needed to turn the lights off.

she asked me to describe her...i did. she then switched the light off and said 'congratulations you have seen the ghost'. i have never seen one since. but thats my story!

so, yes is my answer to the question.

i do because I have had the misfortune to see one, and to make things worse, just incase I was seeing things, my friend who at the time legged it, saw what I saw too.
imflyingaway, all you seem to do is tell people to die or get cancer. Stop being such a james blunt and get a ferkin life!
Hi Spaced, I assume that a ferkin is something like a gerkin only much larger and should be inserted in the appropriate place for those whose only mission is to put people down.
Hi again spaced, just reread that and it looks like its aimed at you but in fact was intended as comment on a previous post.

I cannot understand why people can put down something for which no proof has been give, or found, one way or another. I and others believe in God, yet no absolutely proof has been given or found, we only have what we have told.

I watch Colin Fry, he certainly make it difficult to disbelieve.

And aliens? Look up at the sky at night, see ALL those stars, are we so vain to think this is the only planet with life. I am 70yrs, and still see things that I never thought I would.

Why do we think we know it all, when every year we are discovering something new. Just wait, it might even happen.

Not too sure whether I do, but check website out below showing real photos of 'ghosts' certainly makes you think.

If we want to know about spiritual things, we should go the the book that covers the subject. The Bible. The idea of ghosts depends on the idea that some part of people survives death. The Bible says otherwise.

Ecclesiaste 9; 5,6 '5 For the living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all, neither do they anymore have wages, because the remembrance of them has been forgotten. 6 Also, their love and their hate and their jealousy have already perished, and they have no portion anymore to time indefinite in anything that has to be done under the sun.

So no action after death...so no such things as ghosts.

But people do see phenomenon. What are they? They are demons. And the Bible says they DO exist. Matthewq 8 and Luke 8 tell the story of the demons in a man that Jesus ordered out, and into a herd of pigs. And in this encounter, the demons identified Jesus as the Son of God. Having once been in heaven as good angels before they turned bad, they knew the difference between Almighty God and his son. They identified Jesus as the son. They did NOT say he was Almighty God.
