How do I turn up the sound sensitivity on a pc microphone???
4 Answers
I have recently bought a laptop and have installed a webcam and microphone. The microphone connects via a headphone jack connection.
The sound sensitivity on the microphone is quite low and I was wondering how I might turn the volume up.
I tried double clicking on the sound icon on the task bar and turning all the various levels to max but it does not seem to effect the microphone levels.
I am running windows xp home.
Thanks for your time.

........if you are using this for MSN messenger you can do Tools/Audio and Video set up and go through the Wizard..
..........when you double click the sound icon is the actual microphone slider there?..if not click options/properties and add the microphone by checking the box, you might have to scroll down...then use the slider to increase the mic volume...
.......or do Start/control panel and d/click the Sounds and Audio devices icon then on the Audio tab get Volume for the mic and use the slider...........
....hope one of these works for you....commoner :-)

After checking the volume setting as commoner detailed above, you might like to try the Microphone Boost facility:-
Double-click the volume control on the taskbar (or via Control Panel)
Choose Options, then Properties then Recording and click on OK.
Under the Microphone slider there should be an Advanced button, click this and then tick the Microphone Boost box (but be careful you don't end up with distortion).
Mostly the dialog box will popup when you plug a microphone into your pc. In that you will have a lot of features like bass, surround sound, etc, Go to audio setting in control panel. Go to control panel and select sound and audio devices section. you can also change the settings from there.
