Thanks kempie I searched for "Latin America" and this one did not show up.....

I always thought it was referred to as Latin America because of the Latino population, that is, the mainly Spanish migrants who travelled there during the Spanish occupation of Mexico, Texas, etc.

It's explained quite well here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Latin_america

Latin America is so called due to the migration of Europeans (particularly Spanish and Portuguese) who also brought there Latin languages with them. Latin America covers a large part of the world including South America, Central America and some of North America (i.e. Mexico) as well as some Caribbean islands. It's an amazing and fascinating place which every should go at least once! see www.selectlatinamerica.com for more details!
