Who is Oliver Cromwell and what did he do for our country? And was he good or evil?

I intended Frasers book to be an example of the things she could read, not a verbatim account. Of course it bypasses details, it's an autobiography, he did other things as well.

Actually Einstein anything I have said about Drogheda or Ireland has been based on information you have provided and/or information I can remember from own reading and lectures. I agree this should end. But I would have liked to have heard something from English and Scottish contributors, as Irish history focuses on itself when it is taught because there is so much to get through and rarely looks to other countries.

TJ, I think bias is created by a lot of things, but having all the facts isn't necessarily going to alter someones opinion, some things are just too big to get past. I don't know your friends, I know nothing about how they've been educated, the books they've read etc so I can't possibly comment on how they form their opinions. Cromwell is always going to be a contentious issue and it is very much up to individuals to make up their own minds. I don't have to like someone to vote for them as a great Briton, being great does not equate with popularity in some cases but that's another argument.

look ive spent months and months of research on oliver cromwell and let me tell u, that is the sole reason why i converted to catholicism! i believe he was evil, read what he did to our ireland!
