Does anyone know why American History X was not even nominated for an Oscar, or Golden Globe- when moronic rubbish like of Forest Gump, and Titanic got a crop of them?- and yes I know this question is years out of date, but i just wondered thats all.

So that may be a reason. Also it's not mainstream enough, it may have been an art house indepenent film to start with. Also its too dangerous to win an oscar. Forrest Gump was a nice film, they always do well, it showed the states in a positive light, and one man triumphed over all against him, the classical oscar winning story. Titanic was just massive, made loads of money and had good effects. I suppose it was quite revolutionary because of the scale of the set.
Never really thought about it...but agree it was a thought provoking, yet excellent film. Can't recall how old it is (6-8yrs?), but I think, as others have said, it wasn't a "safe" film back then. Surely, with more cutting films like Crash (allbeit not as harsh) and modern day controversy in Brokeback, it might've been nominated in current day?
Shawshank..........classic!
