When did the school leaving age change from 14yrs. to 15 yrs and 15yrs. to 16yrs?

dunno but i left at 12 to work at a chippy before i had my first born.

School was first made compulsory for children aged 5 - 13 in 1870. If certain criteria was met, children could leave school and start work at 10.


1893 - raised to 11.


1899 - raised to 12.


1918 - raised to 14


After a lot of flaffing and WWII - raised to 15 in 1947.


Finally raised to 16 in1972.
