Do vampiers exist to this day?

Do the living dead walk to day? I don't mean the wierdos that think that they are vampiers, but the living dead. Can they go out in the sun? Do they actually die when staked to the heart with a wooden stake, or decapitated? Can I ward them off with holly watter, blessed crosses, and garlic? Not being sarcastic or any thing just looking for answeres. If I were to kill a vampier would they dust like in the buffy series, or is that just hollywood?
