A strange one I know but you may be able to put me and my work mates out ofmisery. we have got into a debate on castle names.... are there any castles that are not names after the town/village they are built in? I.e heaver is in heaver, bodium in bodium etc......?

oh, and before anyone says Leeds Castle is in Kent, it is by the village of Leeds.

just so sddsddean: people take their names from the towns where they are based, then give them to buildings they put up elsewhere. Not usually castles, though, I admit - their second building is more likely to be a palace.

Castle Howard in York is named after the Howard family, but I'm not sure if it's really classed as a Castle or a stately home.
