Piers
While sitting on the beach staring out to sea!! We got to wondering what the purpose of a pier is?? other than having amusements and theatres on that is.... any ideas..

So jim davison could be an ass,they really wanted him to drop him in the sea but as they weren't allowed they built a pier in all the coastel towns so when he appeared he was as far out into the sea as they could legally put him,if they were quicker they could have cut away the pier so he couldn't get back again!!!

one purpose is to be able to use boats in tidal areas. In the Thames estuary the difference between high and low tide can mean well over a mile of mud between shore and water's edge. A pier which extends beyond the furthest point the low tide reaches means you can use boats regardless of tidal conditions.
